"GreenSkate is a grassroots event that started from a simple idea: Celebrate and encourage the low impact of longboard skateboards on our environment as a form of effective transportation."
- Ross Baradoy http://www.greenskate.org/
Last year the idea was brewed for Edmonton to partake in a greenskate push, but the lack of skate-able terrain made it impossible for any kind of a push event to be done.
Johnny Badass suggested that we do a slope-style contest to bring the longboarding scene of Edmonton together for a fun day of friendly competition.
What hill would be better than the first one clear in the city? Thee Old Slide Hill of course (Just off Grierson Hill Road, below the Shaw Conference Center MAP: http://www.local124.com/portal/index.php?option=com_gmroute&savedid=3690) was and still is the one of the best free ride spots in town. Not to mention one of the safest due to it being close to traffic.
This years event is going to be a hour long jam session where riders will push themselves to impress judges with speed, style and skill. Meet on the hill at Noon, and yes there is no entry fee! Spectators are more than welcome!
This year I felt the need to push event farther forward in a "greener" way, so for everyone who pushes to the event, takes the LRT, (for those st.albert boys) carpools or truly tries to take a change from the everyday convenience of just driving, will be entered in a draw for prizes! Lets try and see a car-less parking lot! Hope everyone has a great time.
Big thanx goes out to Local 124 and Darkspeed Slide pucks for sponsoring. |
